Welcome to IMAGIN_IRL

This digital exhibition is part of the work of the IMAGIN_IRL research team, which explores how the Irish Revolution (1912–1923) was perceived through the French cultural imagination. The press images in this database belong to news agencies Rol (1904–1937) and Meurisse (1909–1937) and are preserved in the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF)’s national collection held on the Gallica website. Many of these photos were published in French newspapers in their original negative form or as engravings. These images visually tell the history of Ireland’s political emancipation as seen through a French lens.
